The economy of the Teluk Mas villagers are generated through the agricultural, entrepreneurship, tourism, industrial, fisheries sectors and working individually as well as working with the government and private sectors. Apart from that, the local villagers also participated in the cultivation of oyster mushroom. Bestari Mahwal and his wife have started the cultivation of oyster mushroom since 2005. His mushrooms are sold to the food stall entrepreneurs within the village areas.

Kampung Teluk Mas gets its name from an incident which happened a long time ago. According to an old folk’s tale, a fisherman had gone out to the sea to check on his net. While lifting it, his net was said to be quite heavy as though something was trapped inside. When lifted, he saw a gold chain was caught inside his net. Due to the incident, many people had come to this place to look for the fisherman and listen to his story. After a while and based on the incident, the village was called Kampung Teluk Mas. |
