Situated in Ayer Hitam sub-district, Kampung Parit Tengah is under the jurisdiction of Muar Municipal Council. Visitors to this village will be greeted with the popular Javanese greetings such as “kabare?” and “wes mangan orong?” Until today, the villagers here still converse in a distinct Javanese dialect called “Jawa Kasar” and talking about the Javanese culture, the favourite food among them is definitely Tempe. This traditional food, made of fermented soya beans is a must-have once you visit this place. Its scrumptious and unique taste will make you ask for more.

History Entrepreneurship

The early settlers of this village were the Javanese from Sumatra. They migrated to Malaya to find and open a new settlement. These early settlers were of Ponoroggo ethnicity. Around the 1950s, many had migrated to this area and had families. Some of these settlers came from the neighbouring villages such as Kampung Sungai Buaya.

The Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) is one of the economic sources of the villagers in Kampung Parit Tengah. Among them is the mi siput production which is ventured by the women. Here, Hajah Hasnah Haji Roslan is the proud business owner. Mi Siput is dried flat yellow noodle which needs to be fried first before it can be eaten. It can also be made into traditional dishes such as pengat or mi kangkung.
