Contrary to other villagers, most of the residents in Kampung Padang choose business as their main source of income. Arrays of businesses are operated by the locals here such as beauty saloon, laundrette, car repair workshop, restaurants, grocery shop and car wash outlets. All the special skills and intellectual knowledge in their respected arena was used to the best of their abilities and it has become their lucrative “capital” in business.The women in Kampung Padang do not rest on their laurels; they also help in supplementing the family income. They are involved in preparing traditional local cakes like kuih bakar and baulu. The profits from their mushrooming businesses supplement their families’ income.
