Mantin which was formerly known as Setul is believed to be opened by the Malays who were originally from the Seremban beach. The discovery of tin ore in this area had attracted the British to develop the Setul area. Thus, the British had offered some compensation in the form of lands and cash for the Setul villagers in return for them to willingly move to other places. The Kampung Setul is now located at Batu 8, Mantin.

According to the senior citizens of the Mantin town area, the actual name of this small town was ‘Many Tin’. This name was given by the British as the area was rich with tin ore. At that time, many Chinese immigrants had migrated here and became labourers at the tin mines. As the Chinese had difficulties in pronouncing the words ‘Many Tin’, they had shortened the words into ‘Man Tin’ and finally the name Mantin came into being until now.
