Kampung Kuala Paya is situated approximately 13 kilometres from Segamat Town where the population is dense and settlements are well-organised. The fertile lands around Segamat are the contributing factor to the villagers’ preferences in agricultural activities to generate their income. Here, rubber trees and oil palm trees are the main cultivation.

Farming And Plantation Entrepreneurship

Agriculture such as rubber tree and oil palm plantations are mostly developed on the estates owned by Federal Land Development Authority (FELDA) and Federal Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority (FELCRA). In Kampung Kuala Paya, the agriculture practises of the villagers are also focused on rubber and oil palm plantations.

Most people have forgotten about the heritage art of carving antiques such as kris (short sword) and sundang (broad sword). For Ahmad Tahar, a handicraft entrepreneur in Kampung Kuala Paya who produces kris and machete as well as its covers, these valuable heritages should not be forgotten and their production must be continued for the sake of the future generation. Interestingly, he claimed that no one had taught him and that it’s a natural gift.
