The idyllic Kerdau village obtained its name from the Kerdau tree which grew widely in this area. The village’s development is in tandem with the modernisation of other villages around the country. Apart from that, Kerdau is interesting compared to other places as it has the largest centre of leech breeding in this country. Presently, there are 24 ponds built on a private land with each having 500 leeches. As for the tourism sector, this village offers something unique to the visitors at Desa Murni Homestay. Here, the visitors will be introduced to the village community way of life. Such an industry will definitely enlighten the visitors and give them an opportunity to experience the traditional way of life as still being practised here.

Desa Murni Homestay, managed by Shahariman Hamdan, is the venue where the Malay customs and way of life are shown to foreign visitors. It was officiated by the then Minister of Culture, Arts and Tourism Datuk Seri Kadir Sheikh Fadzir in 1995. Shahariman mooted the idea for this project after having the opportunity to experience the Japanese culture during his visit to Japan. Desa Murni Homestay is where tourist gets to live with the selected host in the village and experience first hand the lifestyle of Malaysians and their culture as well.

The breeding of leeches in this village is managed by a local company, Lucrative Agrobase Event. This enterprise is one of the villager’s sources of income and the demand for leeches is overwhelming. The leeches pond here is the biggest in the country. These ponds are managed by the company with a start up capital of approximately RM200, 000. There are 24 ponds built here with each having 500 leeches. The swampy geographical landscape is suitable for the leech ponds. The leeches are bred in canvas and fed with eel and water hyacinths leaves.
