“If the Malacca King desired of me, granted unto me a golden bridge and a silver bridge spanning Malacca to Gunung Ledang. And for a betrothal gift let there be seven trays of mosquito liver; seven trays of mites’ liver; a vat of virgin maidens’ tears; a vat of dried areca nuts water and a bowl of Raja Ahmad’s blood. If all the things are granted then the king’s wish will surely come true” That was the wishes of Puteri Gunung Ledang when Sultan Mahmud’s courier presented his majesty’s marriage proposal. As he did not want to sacrifice his prince, Sultan Mahmud then refused to the princess’s conditions. This story has become a local legend till now and been adapted into books, theatre and films.
