Between the years 1960’s – 1970’s, Kemayan District, especially the small town, was well known for the migration of residents from other states to seek jobs in oil palm plantations. The sole mode of public transportation which connects Kemayan, a remote area in Pahang, to other places is the famed train system. Only those who are strong-willed and persevered will be willing to leave their villages to earn their living.

But now, Kemayan and its surrounding area have changed. Apart from the increase in population, the surrounding areas have also progressed. Modern paved roads connect Kemayan with other areas while life, economy and standard of living of the residents have also changed in line with the current development.

Entrepreneurship History

The cultivation of Grey Oyster Mushroom requires interest, knowledge and a wide range of experience. Otherwise, it would be quite hard to be a successful mushroom entrepreneur as its cultivation requires determination, considerable amount of funds as well as time-consuming. As a fungus, it actually contains a lot of nutrients and vitamins compared to other types of vegetables.

Kampung Tan Sri Hamzah was opened in stages, the first stage in 1978 which was done by Tuan Haji Ghazali Awang, the elder brother of YB Haji Abdul Hadi Awang, and 15 other individuals. Formerly known as Kampung Baru Kemayan, it was renamed Kampung Dato Seri Hamzah so as to commemorate Dato’ Hamzah Abu Samah, former Temerloh Member of Parliament.
