Founded by the legendary prince Parameswara, the Malacca Sultanate is one of the distinct histories that characterises Malacca. Historically, legendary woman warrior Tun Teja was the wife of Sultan Mahmud Syah (1458 – 1511). After Malacca was conquered by the Portuguese in 1511, the Sultan had retreated to Bentayan (now known as Muar).
